The Academic Council regulations From the Charter of IMC RAS

40. The Academic Council is formed for the purpose of consideration of the main scientific, scientific-organizational, and personnel matters of the Institute. Members of the Academic Council are elected by secret ballot after election of the Director of the Institute at the General meeting of academic staff of the Institute, which acts according to the Statute approved by the Director and consists of the members of the academic staff having scientific degrees. The Academic Council includes the Director (Acting Director) of the Institute, who is the Chairman of the Academic Council, the scientific leader of the Institute, the leader of scientific direction, and the Scientific Secretary of the Institute, who is the Scientific Secretary of the Academic Council of the Institute.

The number of Academic Council members is determined by the Director. The Academic Council membership is approved by the order of the Director according to the election results. The Director can appoint another person from the leading scientific staff of the Institute (proposed by the Academic Council) to the post of the Chairman of the Academic Council. Members of RAS working at the Institute are included into the Academic Council without election (with their consent).

The Academic Council acts under the Statute approved by the Director of the Institute.

41. The Academic Council:

41.1. Develops and approves the plan of scientific activities of the Institute in accordance with the plans elaborated and approved in due order by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education concerning fundamental and research work of scientific organizations subject to the jurisdiction of the Ministry within the framework of the long term program of fundamental research in Russian Federation.

41.2. Submits for approval plans of scientific personnel training, international scientific collaboration, meetings and conferences as well as other plans; considers questions of logistical and financial support of the planned activities.

41.3. Discusses and approves reports of the Institute and heads of scientific divisions concerning the results of research work.

41.4. Discusses the actual problems of science, hears scientific presentations and communications.

41.5. Nominates scientific works, inventions, and other achievements for prizes and medals, recommends employees of the Institute for scientific and honorary titles, state and other awards.

41.6. Elects editors-in-chief of the publications founded by the Institute; approves composition of editorial staff (proposed by the Director of the Institute).

41.7. Estimates the results of research work of the Institute as a whole and the results achieved by its scientific divisions.

41.8. Determines the principles of logistical support of research work and scientific-organizational activity of the Institute.

41.9. Considers the issues of reorganization of scientific divisions of the Institute.

41.10. Considers other issues in accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation and the Charter of IMC RAS.
