Partnership

The Institute has the License for the right to carry out educational activities (personnel training, speciality 02.00.06 – macromolecular compounds, chemical sciences, physical and mathematical sciences). The postgraduate training program of IMC RAS mainly involves graduates of Faculty of Chemistry and Faculty of Physics of St Petersburg State University, which have the corresponding specialized chairs. A growing number of graduates with diplomas in engineering and technology are entering our postgraduate program (graduates of St Petersburg State Polytechnic University, St Petersburg State Institute of Technology (Technical University), St Petersburg Chemical Pharmaceutical Academy and others).

The basic department of medical physics of Peter the Great St Petersburg State Polytechnic University was created at the Institute; the Institute has four research and education centers:

“Physics of polymers, biopolymers, liquid crystals and dispersion systems” with the Faculty of Physics of St Petersburg State University;

“Polymers in biotechnology and medicine” with Peter the Great St Petersburg State Polytechnic University;

“Technologies for development and modification of natural and synthetic polymers and physico-chemical studies of these polymers” with St Petersburg State Technological University of Plant Polymers;

“Computer simulation of nanosystems in biology and materials science” with Lomonosov Moscow State University and St Petersburg State University.

International Activities

The relationships with foreign scientific organizations are realized as exchange of scientists for acquaintance with research work; joint research; lectures, seminars, conferences both in Russia and abroad. Within the framework of academic exchange, the Institute receives 30-50 foreign scientists every year and sends 50-60 employees for conducting joint research and participating in international symposiums and conferences.

In the period from 2014 to 2018, three international laboratories headed by leading foreign scientists were founded at the Institute:

Laboratory of Multiscale Experimental Studies and Simulation of Polymer Composites on the Basis of Promising Thermoplastics for Industrial Applications (Dr J. Kenny, Italy);

Laboratory of Polymeric Biomaterials and Systems (Dr Mikko Karttunen, Finland);

Laboratory of Biomimetic Polymeric Materials (Dr S.S. Sheiko, USA).

Institute of Macromolecular Compounds RAS, being one of the leading scientific centers in the area of polymer chemistry and physics, regularly holds international symposiums, conferences of young scientists and seminars that attract leading scientists from foreign countries and members of scientific community from Russian scientific and educational institutions. IMC RAS organizes one of the main international polymer forums in Russia: “Molecular Order and Mobility in Polymer Systems”, which is held every three years, and annual International St Petersburg Conference of Young Scientists “Modern Problems of Polymer Science” and the International Conference on Thermoplastic Polymers. IMC RAS is one of the organizers of “All-Russian Conference on Organic Chemistry with International Participation”. In 2016 the 1st All-Russian conference with elements of scientific school “Computer Simulation of Heterocyclic Polymers” was held within the cluster of conferences on organic chemistry “OrgChem-2016”.

Scientists of IMC RAS conduct joint research within the framework of 26 inter-institutional agreements, the Seventh European Framework Program (projects FP7-NMR-2011 and FP7-SPIDER), the program of tripartite cooperation with France and Czech Republic, international RFBR grants with Finland, Romania and Belarus; scientific programs of the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG) with Hannover (Germany) and German Electron Synchrotron research center (HASYLAB DESY, Hamburg); the “Contact” program with Czech Republic.

The examples of long-term productive collaboration are joint research works of IMC RAS with Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry of Academy of Sciences of Czech Republic, Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research Dresden (Germany), the “Petru Poni” Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry of the Romanian Academy, the Department of Materials Science of Paris School of Mines.

Scientists of IMC RAS, members of editorial boards of foreign scientific journals:

Yu.А. Skorik — Eurasian Chemico-Technological Journal; Research & Reviews in Polymer; Advances in Analytical Chemistry.

I.P. Dobrovol’skaya — Journal of Applied Polymer Science.

Е.М. Ivan’kova — Journal of Applied Polymer Science.

I.V. Gofman — Сarbon.

Industrial partners

In April 2016, the Memorandum of Cooperation with JSC “United Shipbuilding Corporation” was signed.

From the Memorandum:

“3. Recognizing the leading role of IMC RAS in Russian Federation in the field of development, study, and characterization of polymers and polymer-based materials, JSC “United Shipbuilding Corporation” within the framework of the present memorandum of cooperation delegates to IMC RAS coordination of the work on revealing and formation of scientific and technical reserve in the field of development and use of new polymeric, composite and hybrid materials, designing products on the base of these materials, technologies for production of these materials for solving the corresponding problems of modern shipbuilding”.
